With the weather getting colder and Christmas party season causing a few tired eyes (and swollen heads), we're probably going to be spending more time indoors in the coming weeks. And when you're at home with the New Year fast approaching, it's only natural to start thinking of ways to spruce up your surroundings.

Thankfully, the good folks over at Pinterest have just shared their home decor predictions for 2019. Every trend in the top ten – which range from natural swimming pools to cactus arrangements – makes the list because it's been getting more and more Pinterest searches over the last six months. Basically, these home decor ideas really are hot right now, so get clicking through for home inspo aplenty.

Painted floor tiles
"People are painting their parquet floors with bold colours and mosaic patterns," says the Pinterest report – and when the results are this stylish, it almost seems a shame to lay down a bath mat.

Geometric Paint

Pinterest searches for geometric paint have more than tripled, so expect to see some seriously crisp and colourful wall designs in the coming year.

Textile art

"People are wrapping up their walls in fabric for a textured, artsy aesthetic," says the Pinterest report. It's a trend that sounds pretty expensive, but if you just used fabric to create an eye-grabbing statement wall, you'd get maximum impact for your money.

Vertical gardens

This one's a no-brainer, tbh, as many of us are embracing our inner plant lady. Plants are a quick and simple way to brighten up any room, so why restrict them to the floor?

Tin interiors

Pinterest searches for "tin interiors" are up a massive 563% as people experiment with tin wallpaper and backsplashes. For messy cooks, the latter could prove practical as well as pretty, because tin is generally a wipe-clean material.

Bold print wallpaper

If you've been itching to nuke your neutral walls for a while, this trend is definitely for you. Tropical leaves and bright colours are particularly popular at the moment, according to the Pinterest report.

Cactus arrangements

Do you travel a lot, or have a bad track record when it comes to, um, actually keeping plants alive? Then this one's for you: succulents like the humble cactus need very little water, so it's actually quite difficult to kill them.

Contemporary fireplaces

"Indoor and outdoor fireplaces are heating up," says the Pinterest report, with designs "the more modern and sleek, the better". If you like the idea of creating a space that's both cosy and contemporary, this decor trend is ideal.

Natural swimming pools

Okay, so very few of us are likely to be moving anywhere that has a natural (i.e. chlorine-free) swimming pool any time soon. But there's no harm in looking and drooling, is there?

Mustard yellow

This isn't a shade many of us would want floor-to-ceiling, but the Pinterest report suggests we "try out small accents for a colourful pop", which makes a lot more sense, we mustard-mit.
